We have farmed this land in Waterloo for seven generations and we want the land to still be healthy and productive for the next generations that will follow.
Some of the things we are doing to contribute to a healthier environment:
• Planting new orchards every year (sequestering carbon from the air)
• Practising Integrated Pest Management (which reduces the use of chemical inputs)
• Streamlining our logistics (to cut down on carbon emissions generated by trucking)
• Using reusable apple containers and recycled boxboards
• Installing the most efficient equipment and lighting to reduce our energy consumption
• Processing of apples into apple chips, cider and bakery slices, ensures that all apples can be used
• Cores, seeds, stems and any leftover bits are composted or turned into animal feed
